Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for your interest in our school and on behalf of the pupils, staff and Governors  I would like to welcome you to Norwood Primary School.

My name is Lee Dumbell and I am the Head Teacher. I was appointed as Head Teacher at Norwood in September 2008 and am extremely proud of the achievements of our children and the school community since then.

Our core values of ASPIRE, RESPECT and ENJOY succinctly outlines our commitment to provide engaging and memorable learning experiences that foster a love of learning and allow our pupils to reach their full potential. At Norwood we pride ourselves on ensuring our pupils are safe and happy, have the best educational experience and the highest standards of teaching and learning possible. In return we expect parents and carers to ensure their child has excellent attendance and punctuality.

We have over 470 children in school with two classes per year group apart from in Reception and Year 1 where we have three classes. We are very fortunate to have children from a diverse cultural background with families joining us from countries such as Poland, Turkey, Portugal and Latvia. Some of our children speak very little English at first but within weeks their confidence grows and their language develops. We love to learn about each others countries and customs. There are many opportunities for children, parents, governors and staff to be an integral part of the shaping of our school community. We strongly believe that education is a 7 year partnership between home and school.

We believe that children learn best when home and school work together for their benefit, and so we will strive to involve families and encourage you to share your child’s learning journey. Children coming into the school bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding about the world around them. It is our aim to build on these skills and promote a willingness and enthusiasm to learn more.

As well as offering an interesting and fun currciulum, Norwood offers an extraordinary wide range of extra-curricular activities for all ages de;livered by staff or by external agencies. These range from sports such as netball, football, cricket and cross country to music, dance, cooking, lego and film clubs. We are also open to ideas and suggestions for other activities.

We hope that the information contained in this website will help you to learn a little more about the life and work of Norwood Primary School. We are an extremely busy and active but friendly school and are always delighted to welcome visitors and to show what life at Norwood is all about. This website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing regular updated information for both parents and pupils.

I look forwarding to meeting you at our many events or if you would like to visit the school during one of our regular prospective parent tours. So I extend a welcome for you to come and visit us in person and see what life at Norwood is really like in live 3D.

Our Core Values

We believe the primary school years are the most important years of a child’s educational life and it is our aim to develop and promote their love of learning. By providing our pupils with a high standard of teaching and learning, up-to-date high quality resources and a wealth of rich and varied educational opportunities, we aim to give our children at Norwood the best start possible.

In developing their confidence, their self-belief and their academic knowledge, we endeavour to equip all pupils with the skills for a happy and fulfilling life. By the time the children have left us at the end of Year 6, we hope that children will have PARTICIPATED, ENJOYED and ACHIEVED at Norwood.
