Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy
Child protection and Safeguarding
At Norwood Primary School, we want every child to feel safe, be listened to and know who they can turn to for help. All staff share responsibility for keeping children safe. Our safeguarding team works with children, families and other services to make sure children get the help they need.
If you are worried about a child
If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
If you are worried about a child’s safety or welfare, please tell someone straight away, even if you are unsure what has happened. Contact the school office and ask to speak to Mrs Kim Taylor, our Designated Safeguarding Lead, or one of her deputies. Children can speak to any trusted adult in school.
You can also contact Sefton’s Children’s Help and Advice Team (CHAT) directly on 0151 934 4013. Outside normal opening hours, if the concern cannot wait until the next working day, call Sefton’s Emergency Duty Team on 0151 934 3555. Report a concern to Sefton Council

What Happens When You Tell Us
We will listen carefully, take your concern seriously and record what you tell us. Our safeguarding team will consider what the child needs and may seek advice or share relevant information with children’s social care, the police or other services.
We will usually work with parents and carers and explain what is happening where it is safe to do so. If contacting a parent or carer could put a child at greater risk or interfere with an investigation, we will seek advice from the relevant agencies.
If your concern is about an adult working in school
Please raise any safeguarding concern about a member of staff, volunteer or other adult working in school directly with the Headteacher. If your concern is about the Headteacher, contact the Chair of Governors via the school office. Mark any written correspondence Private and Confidential. You can also report concerns about a child’s safety directly to Sefton Children’s Services using the numbers above.
Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy
Our policy explains how we help keep children safe, how we respond to concerns and how we work with other agencies. Under section 175 of the Education Act 2002, the Governing Body must make arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils. Our policy sets out those arrangements and reflects the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2026, alongside Sefton’s local safeguarding arrangements.
