Equality Information & Objectives

Equality Information and Objectives

At Norwood Primary School, we want every child to feel they belong, are treated fairly and can take part in school life. Our values of Aspire, Respect and Enjoy guide how we teach, support children and work with families. We look for barriers that may prevent children from learning or participating and take steps to remove them.

What This Means At Norwood

  • Learning and achievement. We look at how different groups of pupils are doing so we can identify gaps, understand what may be causing them and decide where additional support is needed.

  • Taking part in school life. We consider accessibility when planning lessons, visits, clubs and other activities. We make reasonable adjustments for disabled pupils and welcome conversations with families about what would help their child take part.

  • Respect and representation. Through our curriculum, books and assemblies, children encounter people and perspectives from a range of backgrounds. We take prejudice-related bullying, discriminatory language and harassment seriously.

Our Equality Duty

Under section 149 of the Equality Act 2010, our Governing Body must have due regard to the need to eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act, advance equality of opportunity, and foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not. This is known as the Public Sector Equality Duty.

We publish information each year showing how we meet this duty. We also publish specific, measurable equality objectives and update them at least every four years. Our equality information explains what we are doing, and our objectives set out what we want to improve and how we will measure progress.
