Safe Sleeping
Safe Sleeping and Resting
Some children may occasionally need to sleep or rest during the school day. When this happens, our priority is to make sure that they are safe, comfortable and appropriately supervised.
Within our EYFS provision, any sleeping arrangements follow the safer sleeping requirements appropriate to the age of the child.
Sleeping children are checked regularly and remain within sight and hearing of staff. Safe sleeping spaces and appropriate bedding are used, and staff take care to ensure children remain comfortable and do not become too hot or too cold.
For older primary-aged children who need to sleep or rest during the school day, an appropriate and supervised space will be agreed.
The child will be checked regularly and the arrangements will take account of their individual needs.
Where a child regularly needs daytime sleep or rest, we will work with parents and carers and, where appropriate, include the arrangements within the child’s medical, SEND or pastoral support. If a child shows an unusual or unexplained need to sleep, staff will also make sure that this is shared with the appropriate member of the school team.
Our approach is:
A safe space. Appropriate supervision. Regular checks. Knowing the child.
